Counselling at Amani

You are more than what you have been through.

You may be carrying the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, abuse, burnout or experiences that feel difficult to name. You may simply know that something no longer feels right.

Counselling begins with a relationship in which you can feel heard without judgement. Together, we can gently explore what has happened, how it continues to affect you and what may help you reconnect with safety, choice and a stronger sense of yourself.

Trauma-informed counselling

Understanding begins when we look beneath the surface.

Trauma can shape how the body responds to stress, how safe relationships feel and how we understand ourselves. Anxiety, depression, grief, addiction and burnout may also have deeper roots in experiences that once felt overwhelming or impossible to process.

A trauma-informed approach does not ask, “What is wrong with you?” It asks what has happened, what helped you survive and what you may need now. Counselling moves at a pace that respects your safety, choices and boundaries.

The aim is not to define your story for you. It is to create enough safety and understanding for new possibilities to emerge.

Counselling may support you with…

  • Childhood trauma in adulthood
  • Inner-child work
  • PTSD and complex trauma
  • Anxiety and depression
  • Grief and bereavement
  • Abuse and sexual trauma
  • Burnout and boundaries
  • Addiction and harm reduction
  • Eating-related difficulties

How counselling begins

You do not need the right words, a clear diagnosis or complete certainty before reaching out. Your first message can be brief and you only need to share what feels comfortable.

From there, Janika can help you consider whether Amani is the right fit, answer practical questions and explain what an initial online counselling session may look like.

1. Reach out

Send a private message and share only what feels necessary at this stage.

2. Clarify your needs

Janika will respond and help identify the form of support that may be most appropriate.

3. Decide on the next step

You can then decide whether you would like to continue. There is no pressure or obligation.

Counselling questions you may have

No. Many people begin counselling with only a sense that something is not right or that they are finding it harder to cope. You and Janika can explore what you are experiencing together, without pressure to arrive with a diagnosis or a perfectly explained story.

Sessions take place through a private online video platform. The first session is an opportunity to talk about what brings you to counselling, what you hope may change and what would help you feel safe in the process. You remain in control of what you share and the pace at which you share it.

Counselling may support adults living with the effects of trauma or PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, abuse, burnout and related distress. Support is tailored to your needs rather than a diagnosis alone. If your needs fall outside Janika’s professional scope, she will discuss appropriate referral options with you.

Yes. Counselling is treated as private and confidential within professional and legal limits. Janika will explain these limits, including circumstances involving serious risk of harm or legal obligations, before counselling begins.

No. Amani is not an emergency or crisis service and cannot provide immediate intervention. If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services or an appropriate crisis line in your country. If you are unsure, you are welcome to ask whether Amani’s counselling scope is suitable for your needs.
